Rebuild the missing context
Assume the recipient will not remember every date, promise, or earlier conversation. For a message about how to respond after a family secret is revealed, use this factual base: separate the event, money, care, decision, or promise from judgments about loyalty and character.
Say what needs to happen next
State the decision, information, or practical action you need and include a real deadline only when one exists. Ask each person for their understanding and propose a documented next step or neutral conversation. Make the immediate next step clear enough that the recipient can answer without reconstructing the entire history.
Avoid making urgency into pressure
Do not use children, illness, holidays, or relatives as leverage and do not circulate private messages. Use mediation, legal, safeguarding, domestic abuse, or emergency support when power or safety makes direct discussion inappropriate. Do not make the other person responsible for reducing the discomfort that prompted you to write.
