Start with the part that is verifiable
Separate the event you can describe from the motive or reaction you are guessing. For a message about how to respond to an amends message in recovery, use this factual base: use the person's own language for recovery, name the practical concern, and distinguish a lapse from what you do not know.
Make one answerable request
Give the recipient one concrete question or next step instead of several emotional jobs at once. Offer a specific sober or practical support option and encourage connection with qualified help. Make the immediate next step clear enough that the recipient can answer without reconstructing the entire history.
Leave the recipient in control
Do not shame, bargain, lend money without limits, or make your relationship the reward for recovery. For overdose, dangerous withdrawal, suicidal intent, violence, or immediate risk, contact emergency or crisis services now. A clear message remains useful even when the answer is no or no answer arrives.
