Agree on what can be shared
When possible, align with the former partner on a simple public explanation, especially when children, finances, or active proceedings are involved. Share your own experience without exposing theirs.
Give the minimum complete account
State that the relationship is ending or has ended, any practical family change they need to know, and whether a response is wanted. Avoid evidence dumps, legal allegations, and requests to take sides.
- Protect children's names, schedules, and locations.
- Do not disclose sealed or confidential legal material.
- Ask relatives not to contact the former partner on your behalf.
Use formal channels for legal matters
A personal announcement is not service of documents, legal notice, or a custody communication channel. Use lawyers, courts, mediators, or approved co-parenting systems where required.
